Google starts building on $1 bn Waltham Cross data centre site

Having acquired the 33 acre agricultural site known as Maxwells Farm West for £33m in September 2020, Google has now started construction to build its new data centre.

The site is situated to the west of Waltham Cross and to the south-west of Cheshunt. Goffs Oak is to the north-west.

Outline planning was granted in June 2020 for a data centre facility of up to 667,000 sq ft and office / commercial space of up to 245,000 sq ft, giving a total of over 900,000 sq ft.

The site will have vehicular access from the A10 and Lieutenant Ellis Way.

The New River runs close to the western boundary of the site, further west of which is St Mary's High School.

The scale of the $1 bn investment is a clear sign of confidence in fringe North London as a strategic commercial location. We believe it will have positive knock-on effects not only on the commercial market but also the residential market.
